In the municipalities of Passignano and Tuoro sul Trasimeno, three irrigation districts managed by the Regional Forestry Agency are in operation. On an irrigable area of about 40,000 hectares there are many farms and agritourism farms that are among the STAKEHOLDERS of the European LIVERUR Project.
The agricultural area is mainly occupied by the following crops:
– cereals
– forage
– fruit tree crops
– olive groves
– vineyards
– vegetable crops
– oil crops
The watering volume corresponds to the amount of water that is administered to the soil with irrigation to ensure that it reaches an optimal state of humidity, necessary for crops to meet their water needs.
Watering volumes per hectare vary depending on crops and soil conditions. Here are some examples:
Horticultural crops: 300-400 mc/ha.
Fruit crops: 1500 mc/ha.
Vine, Olive: 100 mc/ha
Cereals/Sunflower: 150 mc/ha
Reducing water consumption in the irrigation process in agriculture, while maintaining yield levels and quality in production, is possible, thanks to the use of new technologies and precision irrigation systems, a new policy in the management of irrigation in agriculture is among the objectives of a transition from linear to circular economy.
In view of the ever-decreasing availability of water from the lake surface and due to the increasing phenomena of summer drought, it is also necessary to review irrigation systems by introducing localized distribution methods and recovering water through: – rainwater collection basins
– recovery of vegetation water and washing water
– mulching crop covers
– introduction of hydroponic crops
It will be the task of the Local Administrations to plan technical and informative meetings in the future to facilitate and promote a new management of water resources. LIVERUR stakeholders will therefore be directly involved.
