Living Lab research concept in Rural Areas – “LIVERUR” Dissemination: ZSA

Latvian Farmer’s Parliament organized the Final project dissemination seminar on the of 19th October 2021 in Zeltlejas, Jelgava County.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, safety measures were in place in Latvia on the day of event. According to the regulations, up to 10 people could gather indoors, but up to 20 people could gather outdoors. Thus, the seminar took place outdoors, but an information room was provided indoors, where no more than 10 people stayed at the same time.
At the seminar experts from the Farmers’ Parliament together with Living Lab representatives, looked up on implemented activities in Latvia, project developed LIVERUR RAIN Business Model and MOOCs, NEW CAP and innovations, pointed needs and challenges for rural development issues.

Experience and lessons learnt:
- While implementing the LIVERUR project, a new network has been developed, including Union Farmer’s Parliament Living Lab and stakeholders in horticulture sector.
- The LIVERUR RAIN Business model piloting activities helped to elaborate such aspects:
- Social Sustainability;
- Ecologic Sustainability;
- Stakeholder Involvement;
- Open Innovation;
- ICT Enabled Environment:
- MOOCs (Massive Online Open Course) is a valuable asset: it offers important tools for self-learning and accessing information, filling the knowledge gaps. In addition, it motivates stakeholders to take action and reassures them, as well as promotes entrepreneurship.
- New CAP defines active position for research and knowledge-sharing, positioning it as an essential tool for securing a smart and sustainable agricultural sector. There are opportunities for innovation in agriculture, including the Horizon Europe programme for projects relating to food, farming, rural development and the bioeconomy.
- The reformed CAP will benefit from this increased investment, incorporating stronger agricultural knowledge and innovation systems (AKIS) to boost the development of innovation projects, disseminate their results, and encourage their use as widely as possible. Farm advisory services will be a key tool in sharing new knowledge and ideas.
- The stakeholders evaluated the seminar positively, mostly appreciating new information, networking possibilities that were offered throughout the project, and were grateful for the possibility to meet eye-to-eye.
The tools developed within LIVERUR project will be a part of the future Living Lab activities; the stakeholders are strongly interested and motivated to carry on activities.
